Before enrolling in a college or training program, you may want to confirm whether the school is currently approved for the Ontario Student Assistance Program, commonly known as OSAP.
The Government of Ontario provides an official online School Search tool that allows prospective students to check a school’s OSAP approval status for a specific academic year. The academic year you select must correspond with the date your program begins.
It is important to understand that finding a school in the OSAP School Search does not guarantee that:
- Every program offered by the school is eligible for OSAP
- You will qualify for OSAP funding
- You will receive a particular amount of funding
- Your OSAP application will be approved
OSAP eligibility is based on several factors, including the school, the program, the study period and the individual student’s circumstances.
Before You Begin
Have the following information available:
- Your program’s official start date
- The college or school’s full name
- The address of the campus you plan to attend
Some colleges operate multiple campuses. Each location may appear as a separate result, so it is important to verify the campus address and not rely only on the school name.
If Your Program Starts Between August 1, 2026 and July 31, 2027
Follow these steps if your program begins at any time from August 1, 2026, through July 31, 2027.
Step 1: Visit the Official OSAP School Search
Visit the Government of Ontario’s OSAP School Search:
https://osap.gov.on.ca/SchoolSearchWeb/search/school_search.xhtml
The page should display the heading “Find out if your school is approved for OSAP.”
Step 2: Select the 2026–27 Academic Year
Under Academic year, select the radio button next to:
2026–27
This option applies to programs starting between August 1, 2026 and July 31, 2027.
Step 3: Enter the School Name
Enter the name of the school you want to search for.
For this example, we are searching for:
Academy of Learning
The OSAP search page recommends using a unique word or part of the school’s name. It also advises users not to enter accents or special characters such as an asterisk or ampersand.
Tip: If the complete school name does not produce a result, try entering only a distinctive part of the name.
Step 4: Select “Search”
After entering the school name, select the Search button.
The search results may display multiple campuses or locations associated with the same college name.
Step 5: Verify the Campus Address
This is one of the most important steps.
Do not confirm the school based only on its name. Compare the address shown in the OSAP search results with the official address of the campus you plan to attend.
Confirm that the following details match:
- School or college name
- Campus location
- Street address
- City and province
Step 6: Confirm the Result With the College
When the correct school name and campus address appear in the search results, the institution is listed as an OSAP-approved school for the selected 2026–27 academic year.
However, you should still confirm that your specific program and study period meet OSAP requirements. Contact the school directly and speak with its authorized financial aid representative before making financial decisions or submitting an application.
If Your Program Starts Between August 1, 2025 and July 31, 2026
Follow these steps if your program begins at any time from August 1, 2025, through July 31, 2026.
Step 1: Visit the Official OSAP School Search
Go to:
https://osap.gov.on.ca/SchoolSearchWeb/search/school_search.xhtml
Step 2: Select the 2025–26 Academic Year
Under Academic year, select the radio button next to:
2025–26
This option applies to programs starting between August 1, 2025 and July 31, 2026.
Step 3: Search for the School
Enter the school’s name in the search field.
For example:
Academy of Learning
You may use only part of the name if the full school name does not return the expected result.
Step 4: Select “Search”
Select the Search button to view the available results.
Step 5: Match the Campus Address
Review the results carefully and find the location that matches the campus you plan to attend.
Check the:
- School name
- Campus address
- City
- Province
Step 6: Ask About Your Specific Program
If the correct campus appears, the institution is listed as approved for OSAP purposes for the selected academic year.
School approval alone does not confirm that every program, delivery format or study period offered at that location is eligible. Contact the school’s authorized financial aid representative to verify the status of the specific program you are considering.
What if I Do Not See My College or School Name in the List?
If you cannot find the school, first make sure you searched correctly.
Try the following:
- Confirm that you selected the academic year that matches your program start date
- Search using only a distinctive part of the school’s name
- Remove punctuation, accents and special characters
- Check whether the school operates under a different registered or legal name
- Confirm the official name and address with the campus
- Search again using the name of the college rather than the individual campus name
According to the official OSAP guidance, if you cannot find the school, it is not currently approved for OSAP for the selected academic year. If the school is located in Ontario, you should contact the school directly for information about its OSAP approval status.
Does Appearing in the Search Guarantee That I Will Receive OSAP?
No.
OSAP is a needs-based financial assistance program. It may provide eligible students with grants, loans or a combination of both, depending on the rules applicable to the academic year and the applicant’s circumstances.
Your eligibility and funding assessment may depend on factors such as:
- The school you attend
- The program and study period
- Your course load
- Your residency status
- Your income and assets
- Your family or marital circumstances
- Your previous academic progress
- Previous student loans or restrictions
- The information and supporting documents included with your application
Only the Government of Ontario can assess an OSAP application and determine whether an applicant qualifies and how much assistance may be available.
