Frequently Asked Questions

Is Academy of Learning Brampton West an accredited college for the PSW program?

Yes. Academy of Learning Career College Brampton West is a registered career college in Ontario. Our Personal Support Worker (PSW) program follows the NACC curriculum and is listed among Ontario’s recognized PSW education programs, providing students with the training and practical experience needed to prepare for a career as a PSW.

A PSWs job description usually outlines the responsibilities of assisting individuals with daily living activities. This can include help with personal hygiene, meal preparation, mobility, and providing emotional support. A personal support worker may also monitor client health and report any changes. For those seeking a fulfilling career, personal support worker certificate programs provide the necessary training.

Personal support worker interview questions often focus on your experience, skills, and understanding of patient care. Be prepared to answer questions about your approach to challenging situations, your communication skills, and why you chose this career path. A PSW certificate program will equip you with the knowledge to answer confidently. Some examples include: “Why did you choose to become a personal support worker?” and “How would you handle a difficult patient?”

“Support worker” is a broader term, but a personal support worker is a specific type of support worker. PSWs provide direct care to individuals, often in healthcare settings or homes. Earning a PSW certificate qualifies you for these specialized support roles.

Your personal support worker resume should highlight your skills, experience, and education, including any PSW certificate you’ve earned. Emphasize skills like communication, empathy, and patient care. If you’ve completed a PSW online course, be sure to include that.

In personal support worker home care, PSWs assist individuals in their own homes. This may involve help with activities of daily living, medication reminders, meal preparation, and providing companionship. A PSW certificate prepares you for the specific demands of home care.

While there is overlap, “home support worker” can be a broader term. A personal support worker often has specific training (like a PSW certificate) to provide more in-depth personal care, which may go beyond general home support tasks.

The National Occupation Classification (NOC) system classifies occupations in Canada for employment, labour market, and immigration purposes. Personal Support Workers are typically classified under NOC 44101 – Home Support Workers, Caregivers and Related Occupations. Completing a Personal Support Worker (PSW) program helps you develop the knowledge and practical skills associated with this occupation. As NOC codes may be updated periodically, we recommend referring to the official Government of Canada website for the most current information.
